My Milan Photo Diary

My best friend and I booked a trip to Milan as a big birthday celebration and I am so glad we did!

Milan is absolutely stunning!

We went in January because we love doing city breaks during the low season because its cooler and the attractions are always quieter.

During our time there we squeezed in lots of activities and I wish we had booked another day or 2 there.

We did the 'hop on, hop off' bus tour which was good to see the city quickly - it was a big city so we couldn't walk around it all.  I was disappointed that the buses stop so early though, the last bus during our time there was 4:30pm which is rubbish considering Milan at night is beautiful and tourists need to make the most of their time there.

I love Italian architecture and the bus trip let me see so many beautiful buildings and different styles in a short space of time.

We ate plenty and drank plenty!  The food was outstanding (so many vegan and veggie options) and the cocktails were exceptional!  Beware though, the cocktails here are very strong and I ended up half cut on 2... Italian food is my absolute favourite so I felt like I was in heaven.

The photos came out pretty rubbish but I promise there is a castle behind that fountain! Sforza Castle is beautiful but it was really foggy on the night we went to see it so the cameras haven't picked it up. I wish we had went during the day but there is always next time! The founatin is lovely and the area surrounding it had a bit of a 'party' vibe. There was an ice rink set up with some cheesy pop music blasting, what more do you need?

I did some shopping and treated myself to a new bag, new backback (my other one broke on holiday), and some boots. While we were at it, we went to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping center. I didn't buy anything from the shops but looking at the designer stuff was a good way to spend an hour or so. The shopping center has a bull on the floor, if you put your heel on his balls and spin 3 times it is said to bring you some good luck so I gave that a go! Who doesn't need some extra good luck?! There are some restaurants and bars in the shopping area too, I enjoyed spending some time there and relaxing with a cocktail.

You cant go to Milan without visiting the Duomo, can you?  We ended up outside it every single day and I found it breathtaking every time.  It is huge, intricate and it is genuinely stunning.

We paid to get inside the Duomo and I think it was definitely worth the money.  The ticket we bought gave us access to the Duomo, some of its 'off limits' parts like the underground section and the Duomo museum.  The cathedral is a masterpiece and the photos just don't do it justice.  We went on a Sunday and certain parts were shut off while we were in there which was pretty disappointing because nobody told us that it was going to happen.  They shut off parts of the cathedral for confession but I am not sure if this is a daily thing or Sunday only.

I loved every single second of Milano!  I will go back one day, maybe to see the city in the summer or Autumn months.  Till next time, Milan!
