Piperdam Review: Muirloch Executive Lodge

Kas and I spent a long weekend in Piperdam Lodges a while ago and I’ve been meaning to do a review since we came home.  We stayed in Muirloch Executive Lodge 20 and we loved every single minute of it!  Piperdam is a little self-catering lodge resort just outside Dundee but it feels like I was in the middle of nowhere, one of the reasons I loved it.  It has an on-site restaurant and bar, leisure and golf facilities and has a beautiful loch within its grounds.

Our Lodge
The lodge we stayed in was a 2 person lodge, so one of the smallest that Piperdam has to offer.  It might be a small lodge but it didn’t feel cramped at all, we had plenty of space and I felt like it was a perfect wee home.  The Muirloch lodge has an open plan kitchen, dining room and living room that looks onto your own private hot tub.  It also has a large bathroom and bedroom with the biggest, comfiest bed I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in!

The lodge was clean and cosy which I was really pleased about! I hate staying in places that are cold or dirty.  When we first checked into our lodge we couldn’t get the heating to work and reception sent over someone straight away, he fixed it for us and we were good to go!  We spent the weekend out doing some of the Piperdam activities during the day and spent the nights drinking vodka in our hot tub. it was bliss!

What To Take
I wanted to write this review mostly because we had no idea what to take with us on our trip, we weren’t sure what the lodge came equipped with and what we had to bring ourselves.
Things Piperdam provides:
  • Cooker
  • Microwave
  • Utensils
  • Pots / pans
  • Fridge
  • Small freezer
  • Bedding
  • TV & dvd player
  • Washing machine / dryer
  • Iron

Things to take to Piperdam:
  • Salt / sugar etc
  • Food and drink
  • cooking oil
  • kitchen roll, tinfoil, cling film
  • DVDs
  • Hairdryer
  • Towels (you can hire on site)
  • Washing up liquid
  • Washing powder / fabric softener
  • Dishcloths
  • Toilet roll

We came up with a loaded car full of food and extra supplies and I’m glad because there is an awful lot of things that Piperdam don’t provide! As much as I loved our stay, I was very disappointed that they can charge those sorts of prices but not provide towels etc. I’ve stayed in cheaper places that provide more extras, I think Piperdam need to work on that.

Piperdam Activities

During our stay we did the air rifle shooting one day and  archery and cross bow the next.  I really enjoyed them all, especially the air rifle shooting!  The archery activity was so-so because the bows are light, which makes them inaccurate but I suppose they need to make it as simple as possible for us!  The cross bow was amazing and I felt like such a bad-ass shooting the targets!  I’ve did a beginners archery course so I was used to handling bows and arrows but it was my first time shooting an air rifle and a cross bow.  The activities were about £15 each for an hour and a half session, great value and great fun!  I’d definitely recommend doing some of these activities if you visit.

(ignore my pink camo traccies, they were comfy!)

Piperdam Restaurant
The restaurant here is lovely, its nicely decorated inside and overlooks the loch.  We had a 3 course meal and it was delicious!  It’s on the pricey side but it’s worth it for a nice night out but I definitely wouldn’t eat there every day during a stay.  The portions are huge too, they actually gave me half of my pasta to take home with me so one meal lasted a dinner and a lunch so I technically got value for money…

Also, Piperdam has a massive loch which is home to lots of hungry ducks!  We fed them every day while they were there.  They are so cute!

Overall, Piperdam is a great place to visit for a short break and I cant wait to visit again.  I have booked a stay before Christmas this year for my birthday so I'll update you on my next stay!  I wish it offered more extras for the price but maybe Piperdam will add them in at some point!
