My Blog, My Rules

*eye roll*
There are a lot of bloggers out there that seem to enjoy dictating to others what their blog should and should not include.  I find this utterly ridiculous.  A blog is someone's own property, their own little part of the Internet...  So who is anyone to tell them how to run it?  Obviously if their posts contain highly insulting content that is different but by and large people get huffy about the smallest things.

Firstly, swearing is a hot debate.  Should one swear in their posts?  Well I swear like a sailor in real life and do the occasional swear on here.  I cut out my most colourful language but the odd f word and c-bomb slips through sometimes.  And that is entirely up to me.  Or any other fellow sailors out there.

Deleting comments is another hot topic.  Well I have deleted comments in the past.  It is my site so if I don't want certain comments appearing then it is my prerogative to delete them.  I've deleted rude comments before.  Only one particular person really annoyed me, but I wasn't happy with her tone so I deleted her stuff.  Then deleted the following angry comments about me deleting her previous ones.
Make no mistake, my blog is no place for negativity and I will delete any offensive or rude comments straight away.

Whether or not a blog accepts PR samples is another big issue.  Let me say my part on this. I don't care.  Of course people like free samples.  As long as the review is truthful and disclosed I don't mind.  Bloggers that constantly post about being "PR friendly" do annoy me though, I think blogging to try and blag free stuff is really cringey.

And the worst thing about these constant arguments and orders is this: nobody forces you to read a blog.  If you are not happy with the way a person runs their blog then don't subscribe, it's as simple as that.

As the title suggests, I will do what I want with this site.  My blog, my rules.  Your blog, your rules.

Why get riled at something you can't change?  Just click the unfollow button & live and let live :)

  1. Good on you hun, I'm glad you posted this because I was thinking the exact same things! I said 'pissed' in a post yesterday and I still feel guilty that I'll offend people, but really I shouldn't have to answer to other people, it's my blog! xx

  2. I totally agree, everyone is entitled to their own rules for their own blog. I get cross if I'm made to feel like I'm in the wrong. The twitter chat gets really heated, I've given up trying to join in! x

  3. I enjoyed this ;)
I have recently stopped using the #bbloggers tag and I've actually moved my blog over to Tumblr rather than Blogspot, purely to avoid the drama and bitchiness that is the blogging world. I love blogging but I felt that I didn't want to be involved in the annoying rules and rants over on Twitter in regards to how people SHOULD blog on Blogspot.
I must admit, I do my fair share of bitching, but never to the extreme some go to!
I totally agree though - your blog, your rules :)
    Well said lovely xx

  5. I've found myself withdrawing from the #bbloggers chat on Sunday; mainly because I'm not enjoying the topic related chats. But I agree, I've deleted comments in the past and it's no skin off my nose. It's my blog, if I don't want it there...it won't stay for long. Great post!

    xx

  6. Well said! I'm sure you've probably noticed that the tone of my blog isn't always particularly friendly, but that's how I feel, that's what I think, s that's what I write! Fortunately, I don't yet have enough followers to offend anyone to the point of leaving rude or disapproving comments :-)

  7. Well said, I've recently rejoined twitter and might join the blog convos, which will be a first for me! I'm doing blogging to give honest reviews and because I love make-up, beauty, fashion etc. I also love reading other peoples blogs but dislike some of the catty remarks I heard people make and the bloggers that just want to promote products even if they aren't all that. I really don't think I'm gonna be tweeting too much though, blogging overload lol, xoxo.

    1. You should :) I know Ive just ranted about them but some of them are really good and you can pick up a lot of tips and gain new friends. But yeh, bitchiness comes with it! Yes a lot of bloggers publicly beg for promo items and post some obviously biased reviews haha but I suppose it comes with the territory? Tweeting is fun! add me :) xox

  8. Here here, my thoughts exactly! I find myself constant eyerolling at those high and mighty bloggers trying to boss others about. I will always write about what I want to, it's a hobby so if it ever becomes anything less that fun there'd be no reason to keep blogging.

  9. Great post, completely agree with this- especially the swearing! And the rude comments. Rudeness is one of my pet hates in life! It's your blog, your rules. people don't have to read it at the end of the day, but some people seem to have nothing better to do with their lives than leave pointless horrible comments!
