My Current Fitness Programme

I decided before Christmas that I wanted to get fitter, anyone remember?  Did you all laugh?  Those of you who know me fairly well will know that I have been going to the gym for a few years now, but never taking it too seriously.  I am one of those people who enjoy a good dance class and the odd weights session, but I found that being aimless made me a little lazy.  I'd go religiously for a few months then sporadically for another few months.  My fitness levels go up and down like a yo-yo and each time I slipped it made it harder to start all over again.

Anyway, my point it this, I asked one of the trainers at the gym to make me up a weekly programme.  Asking for help was quite daunting at first, because in the gym I am pretty shit.  Put me in a swimming pool and I could rival a dolphin but throw me into a gym I am clumsy and utterly clueless.  However, having a regime to follow has made it so much easier for me.  I can feel my fitness levels improving; I can run for longer and I feel myself getting stronger.

Leg Day::
Walking lunges, 3 sets of 24 (12 each leg)
Leg press, 3 sets of 12 with 60kg weights
Squats, 3 sets of 12 with 20kg weights
Calf raises, 3 sets of 16 with 50kg weights
Jogging / sprinting hiit for 15 minutes

Core Day::
30 seconds of crunches
30 seconds of leg raises
30 seconds of Russian twists with 6kg kettlebell
45 second plank - right side
45 second plank - left side
45 seconds plank - 'normal'
Jogging / sprinting hiit for 15 minutes

Arm Day:
1.  Barbell curls x12, tricep pushdown x12 ---- Do this without a break (known as a superset) Repeat x3
2.  Shoulder press machine x12, lateral raises x12  --- superset x3
3.  Chest press machine x12, pectoral fly machine x12 --- superset x3
Jogging / sprinting hiit for 15 minutes
** weights on arm day vary!  Depends how strong I'm feeling haha!

Two days a week I either attend a 45 minute dance class or do 20 minutes hiit on the treadmill.

In time I want to increase my weights and run for longer.  This programme will last 8 weeks then I need to change it up a little, so I will be changing very soon!

How does this compare to your typical gym week?

  1. Looks like you've got a great plan worked out for you with everything covered, you've just gotta stick to it now & not be embarrassed! With lunges, if you hold arms out to the side that should help you with your balance slightly :) good luck xx

  2. My fitness routine is literally walking to and from work [45 minuts to 1hr each way, plus hour walk at lunch] and 15 or so minutes walk/jog intervals on the weekend. In essence, pretty shit. I really really need to join a gym and actually work out,
